The double, twin and single bedrooms are all beautifully designed and decorated with a great blend of modern style and traditional fabrics. The twin features a delightful window seat overlooking the canal, so you can enjoy a quiet moment watching the world sail by.
Two downstairs sitting rooms – one with a cosy wood-burning stove – give you loads of living space, and the compact but well-designed kitchen has everything you need. Outside, there’s a private garden with outdoor furniture overlooking the water.
It’s the perfect place for a small group or family holiday.
Kytra Lock is the ideal location for people who really want to get away from it all. It’s as sheltered and secluded a spot as you’ll find anywhere. Yet it’s only two miles from Fort Augustus and a range of activities – if you feel like being active, that is.
Sitting on the southernmost tip of Loch Ness, Fort Augustus is well worth a visit. An impressive system of locks brings canal boats into the village. And if you’re going to have a canalside holiday, what better place to visit than the Caledonian Canal Heritage Centre?
Find out more about traditional Highland life – including the weapons used in clan wars – at the Clansman Centre. Or for a more gentle occupation, visit the Rare Breeds Croft just outside the village. Kids will love the deer, highland cattle, sheep goats and pheasants – not to mention the pot-bellied pigs!
About seven miles from Fort Augustus are the spectacular Moriston Falls, complete with leaping salmon if you time your visit right. Visit the Thomas Telford Bridge for the best possible view. Invermoriston, the village beside the falls, offers all the activities you’d expect from a Highland location. Cycling, walking, riding, shooting, fishing – it’s all here.
There’s walking, cycling and canal cruises to Loch Ness, so try some Nessie-hunting in the shadows of Urquhart Castle. Or take a drive to Eilean Donan – Scotland’s most photographed castle – and add your own snaps to the collection.
If all the peace and quiet gets too much, Fort William and Inverness are less than an hour’s drive away. But we’re betting that once you get to Kytra Lock, all you’ll want to do is sit back and drink it in.
